There are so many benefits to meditation, and many people have found their own way of doing it that works for them. For those who want to start meditating, but don't quite know how, it can be daunting. We're sharing some top tips for beginners that'll help you start to understand the mind.
1. Get your meditation done first thing in the morning. This way, you won't forget about it, or run out of time when the day gets busy. It is also a fantastic way to start the day off, setting you up well.
2. Begin with just two minutes a day for a week. If that goes well, increase by another two minutes and do that for a week. If all goes well, by increasing just a little at a time, you’ll be meditating for 10 minutes a day in the 2nd month, which is great!
3. Most people worry about where to sit, how to sit, what cushion to use … which is all nice, but it’s not that important to get started. Start just by sitting on a chair, or on your couch. Or on your bed. Worry about doing rather than the how.
4. As you first settle into your meditation session, check to see how you’re feeling each day. How does your body feel? What is the quality of your mind? Busy? Tired? Stressed? Whatever you’re bringing to this meditation session as completely OK.
